Water Tanks & Reservoirs waterproofing questions
How do I know if my concrete water tank is leaking?
Turn off all outlets and mark the water level. If the level drops over 24 to 48 hours with nothing drawn, the tank is leaking. Damp patches or green growth on the outside walls show roughly where.
Is the waterproofing safe for drinking water tanks?
Only if the product is certified for contact with potable water. Use cementitious or epoxy linings approved for drinking water inside the tank and check the datasheet before buying. Bituminous coatings are for the outside of buried tanks only.
Does the tank have to be emptied to waterproof it?
Yes. The tank is drained, cleaned and dried, cracks and pipe entries are repaired, and the lining is applied and fully cured before the tank is filled and checked for leaks.
